Contact UsWhy do I need a dental extraction?
There are a number of reasons why patients may need one or more teeth removed at some point in time. Common reasons for dental extractions include:
- Untreatable tooth decay
- Irreparable dental trauma
- Advanced periodontal disease
- Infection or dental abscess
- Crowded or impacted teeth
Are dental extractions painful?
Before your procedure, our team will use a local anesthetic to completely numb your teeth and gums. You may feel some pressure during your treatment, but we do our best to make the entire process as comfortable as possible. If you are anxious about your visit or just want time to fly by, our office provides a variety of dental sedation options, which can help you relax during your treatment. We will also provide you with aftercare instructions to help your recovery process be as easy and painless as it can be.
Can I return to work or school after a dental extraction?
Dental extractions are considered surgical procedures, so we do not recommend that patients return to their normal routines right away. We can review your treatment plan and lifestyle and help you determine how much recovery time you will likely need. Too much activity after a dental extraction can cause the clot in the extraction site to come loose, which can slow down the recovery process. It’s also important to practice good oral hygiene and stick to soft foods that require minimal chewing to help your recovery plan stay on track.
